Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

Mad Max is on the telly now, but they're showing the overdubbed-for-North-American-audience version, not the original film with real voices.

Makes me sad.

This isn't Mad Max. Just a pale imitation.

*sobbs inconsolably into his Melbourne Bitter*

Fuck this film sounds wrong!!! :x

It's like trying to find the original cut of Leon: The Professional...

That's just not right.

I tried the dubbed version for gits and shiggles. That lasted less than 30 seconds. Could not stand it.

What's this about Leon?

There's a dubbed version of Mad Max?

What a pile of wank!

Yeah, I imagine that the dubbed version is the one you know. I heard something along the lines of the US distributors not wanting to touch the film as it originally was for fear that the general viewing public wouldn't appreciate/understand the Australian accents.

Since I've been living outside of Aus I can only find the dubbed version, which is a pity.

As an interesting aside, my house in Aus is on Anakie Rd (spelled Anarchie in the film), and a lot of the film was shot around where I grew up. Pretty cool, I reckon.

Edit: Just found the original audio on Le Tuube:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vIKEuvkRkD0&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vIKEuvkRkD0&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Curious if this is different from what you all know.

Oh man, was THAT ever what I needed right now. Short of going for a ride, which I currently can't, that was the best study break I could have thought up.

Thanks for that, and yeah, that's what I'm used to seeing/hearing.
