Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

so the mustang was caught on a cam in arlington running a red light.

i need to take another look at that intersection because if i was doing what i think i was doing, i was turning right on red which is usually legal except where marked.

but i know how these dicks play this game, no matter what i say i will have to forego the 75 bucks. fuckers.

Innocent until proven guilty...except in traffic court. I've never seen such a rigged example of Napoleonic Law in my life. :x

In California they are now programming some red light cameras to photograph drivers who fail to stop completely before turning right on red. The fine itself is around $100, but the municipality and sometimes the state tack on so many fees that the ticket is often near $450 when all is said and done, which is fucking ridiculous.

Traffic enforcement cameras are all about revenue, not safety. The majority of the drop in red-light and right-turn violations noted after the installation of cameras could be achieved at near-zero cost by lengthening yellow light duration by a second or two - here's one example:

$13.5 million in fines generated in three years by just four intersections!

http://blog.photoenforced.com/2010/02/l ... -turn.html
Rigsby noted that the city's decision to increase the length of time that the lights are yellow by one second, at the expense of green lights, has reduced the number of left-turn violations from 240 month to 25 or 30.

He said the most egregious violations involve motorists who drive straight ahead through red lights and those incidents at the four intersections produced only five violations.

"That is tremendous improvement in safety from what we were seeing in the past," he said. "We could have had that safety with lengthening the yellow lights four years ago instead of installing red-light cameras.

Councilman Floyd Petersen, who has complained about the steep fines for right turns, said he was impressed with the decline in violations. He said it is "a very strong indication ... of increased safety at the intersections."

He also said that despite that decline, "I still very, very strongly feel that another issue needs to be addressed here. A $450 ticket for right-hand turn is ludicrous."
