Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

So it is somewhat cliche and such but do any of you have a new years resolution or two, that stand outside of the "get skinny/don't smoke/love more/hate less" classic standards?

Mine is to have two running bikes by spring and to try and share the joy of motofun with someone new. I want to see if I can get one more of my non-moto inclined friends on two wheels. I mean fucking-a how much fun are we all having on these motors with wheels? It is a crime not to get others stoked on motorcycles.

Oh and I still want the "get skinny/don't smoke/love more/hate less".

Happy new years brohams and sisteroos

I've been doing health modifications the last few years. I gave up doughnuts 2 years ago, and I'll have my first Coke (or pop of any form) since 2009 at midnight tonight.

For next year, I'm going with second-servings. Everyone knows American portion control is the root of all evil; so rather than "get skinny," I'm being a little more direct. One plate, preferably a small one, that's it.

...and an occasional Coke.

No particular resolution this year, other than the general, ongoing "don't be a dumb-ass" goal. Still working on that one.

Regardless, I'd like to wish all of you a happy and injury-free New Year.

I'd say "safe," but that would be silly and pointless. Besides, I have a box of stuff that goes "bang!" and makes sparkles up in the sky. I'll try to keep all my fingers on this time.

Here's hoping that 2011 doesn't suck.

Cheers, y'all.

I've pretty much knocked drinking out of the picture, to make more room for creativity to manifest, improve my relationships, and health.

Not being super dogmatic/straightedge/12 step about it, but rather killing the daily tendency to bury a six pack after work out of habit. Every day.

If I'm drinking to medicate and deal with the world, then those factors are going to get some sober attention, and the necessary lifestyle changes to remove them will be the solution.

If I'm drinking to celebrate, it's going to be significant and deliberate, rather than a knee-jerk reaction.

If I just want a beer with dinner, or try a fancy whiskey? No big deal, I will, I just won't be running the same program anymore.

I'm far more interested in what can evolve and move forward in my life than the comfortable neutrality and stagnation I've been quietly cultivating.

I'm taking a stab at app development, both functional, ambitious stuff for us grown-ups, as well as interactive games and stories for young children (I have a brand new niece this year!).

In addition, I'm hoping the general push in a creative direction will open up some of other fallow projects- writing, design, fabrication, music, etc.

The bike is paid off, and the touring kit road-proven and ready. I'm excited to spend more energy planning and executing group adventures on two this year. With Ragnarok off the menu, a lot of time and resources are available to do a whole slew of smaller, yet awesome overnight trips.

As Scumbag mentioned, Getting new friends up and excited about riding is always on the agenda as well.

In short, I want this year to revive a lot of the vibrant energy and fruitfulness of a younger me, filtered through the wisdom and experience of the older one. Recognizing the limits inherent of an aging body and increased responsibilities, I'm still excited and optimistic about what this year can bring.

1. Stop junkmail from coming to my house. It seems like a good, small step to simplify my life. The junkmail tends to pile up until it hits a critical mass and then I need to determine what is actionable, which are recyclable, and which need to be shredded.
2. Stop tobacco. My snusing is out of control.
3. Figure out some new facial hair. I've had chaps and a soul patch for too long.
4. I really like the stuff WW mentioned about changing the libation/creativity ratio.
5. Hopefully grow the UTMC Minneapolis contingent. Denver/PNW/East Coast cells are humbling.
