Usually when a waiter asks me how I'd like my steak cooked my answer is "moo."red wrote: Ever had a "blue steak"? Cook for 60 seconds on each side, let it sit for a few minutes and enjoy! Kills all the bacteria and leaves all the tasty nutrients and juices inside.
Since I started eating mine blue, anything over medium rare looks like shoe leather.

My moderator is broken. I have been unable to stay off the slippery slope of sugary things (my office keeps a jar of peanut m&ms, the bastards) so I can only limit them by prohibiting them. I have tried to 'eat less and exercise' but it seems the best I can do with that is maintain my weight.piccini9 wrote:I'm on the "Eat Less, Move Around More" diet.
It seems to be working.

I've decided to try this because, what the heck. The worst that could happen is that I go up a few pounds which I should be able to loose again.
I've cut back carbs for three days now, and a) have noticed that I consume much fewer calories than before but feel a lot less hungry than before, also, and b) seem to have lost about two pounds already, which, for this space of time, is more than I managed even when I started out and fasted at 1500 calories a day while lugging around all that extra mass.
Were you eating enough fat? One approach that is a complete train wreck is cutting carbs but not eating fat, i.e. low carb, low fat, high protein. Imagine eating nothing but iceberg lettuce and chicken breasts, that kind of thing. That is not going to work.MoraleHazard wrote:I tried Atkins a few years ago in sympathy w/ my dad who's a type 2 diabetic. YMMV, but I was so hungry almost all the time. I don't know if i'm in ketosis constantly. My research suggests that such a question is kindof a wrong question anyway. What I have gathered is that we get energy from two metabolic processes, ketosis (fat burn) and glycolysis (sugar burn). Both processes are always going but you can cause one of them to dominate based upon what you eat. Since I am typically eat one piece of flourless bread a day as well as lots of berries, I am not going harsh no-carb so I suspect I'm not pushing the ketosis button super hard. My weight loss rate of a steady 2.5 pounds per week also suggests this, as well as the fact that I typically feel energetic.problemaddict wrote:Hey Toonces, with your modified plan, are you in Ketosis constantly? if so, how do you deal with this "ketosis breath from hell"?
And if not, I assume you don't have this problem or is it just less severe? And if you're not in ketosis is the weight loss just slower?

I'm right there with you. -20 lbs, -4.5 inches from waist and -3.5 from chest, and my gear is fitting loosely. Can't afford new gear and even if I could, it would do no good to buy something now only to replace it yet again.Toonce(s) wrote:I did have a crisis last week, I went for a ride and figured out that I am rapidly getting too small to fit my awesome and expensive perforated leather jacket. This is giving me a reason to wear my Icon chest/back protector under my leather every time I ride, it helps fill out my jacket. I am thinking that in another 10-20 pounds I should shop for the baddass-est upper body armor I can find, the bulkier the better. That will keep the jacket fitting till I can replace it, at least that is the plan.Zim wrote:I'm right there with you. -20 lbs, -4.5 inches from waist and -3.5 from chest, and my gear is fitting loosely. I'm moving in the opposite direction. I've always been scrawny and since I cut gluten, cut (most) sugar out of my diet and started Parkour, I've gained much needed muscle mass.Zim wrote:I'm right there with you. -20 lbs, -4.5 inches from waist and -3.5 from chest, and my gear is fitting loosely. +1000 to sugar in the raw, especially in coffee. My acupuncturist suggested I try that in my coffee when I told him about my heartburn. He said it was probabnly from the coffee. The molasses in sugar in the raw (turbinado sugar if you buy it in bulk) counterracts the acidic properties in coffee. Plus it just tastes way better than the refinmed stuff. No heartburn from the next day on. If you haven't already, switch from the refined sugar to the sugar in the raw stuff, it's good too. =]

You'll be soooo hot with boobies!!Because DHEA must first be converted to androstenedione and then to testosterone in men, it has two chances to aromatize into estrogen - estrone from androstenedione, and estradiol from testosterone. As such, it is possible that supplementation with DHEA could increase estrogen levels more than testosterone levels in men.

as a near daily consumer of generous offerings of beer and liquor, i relate to what you say. maintaining a higher level of physical fitness is important to me as i skydive for a living. being in good shape really makes it easier on all fronts. I run 15-25 miles a week, play drop-in hockey regularly, ride my bicycle very often, etc.problemaddict wrote:
