OPEN POSITION: DPW PURCHASING MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY
Source and purchase materials and services necessary for the construction
and clean-up of Black Rock City. Maintain the purchasing system, organize
material pick-up/delivery and facilitate material allocation to efficiently
produce the Burning Man (BM) event.

DUTIES& ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Responsible for purchasing approved materials for DPW and other Burning
Man (BM) departments.
* Track orders from start to finish, i.e., material request to ordering to
receiving to returns or reordering (if necessary).
* Establish and maintain reliable business relationships with local and
nationwide vendors.
* Responsible for updating and maintaining the purchase order (PO) system
utilizing both Excel and a printed PO log book.
* Assist the Business Services Manager to ensure the smooth functioning of
the Purchasing Department and be available to fill in for the BS Manager on
a limited basis if the need arises.
* Responsible for keeping accurate records and coding expenditures for all
transactions performed on behalf of the DPW Purchasing Department.
* Coordinate the Runner(s) on hand with the run schedule. Facilitate the
Runner’s trips by mapping out the most timely stop sequence to maximize the
capacity of each load.
* Communicate with the Runners during the runs to provide updated
information, directions and whatever else the runners may need to complete
their run efficiently.
* Track expenditures to ensure the quoted price is the price
received/charged.
* Runs that come up last minute shall be dealt with in a timely manner which
may require the Run Coordinator to maintain unusual hours.
* Work closely with Receiving to ensure that orders are correct and if
necessary work to rectify mistakes made by either Burning Man Purchasing or
the vendor in question.
* Be available for meetings with the Purchasing department as necessary.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS
* Knowledge of Excel
* Knowledge of tools and construction materials a plus
* Ability to work under stress and keep a cool head
* Comfortable talking on the telephone and radio
* Knowledge of purchasing and receiving system a plus
* Ability to supervise a small team
* Ability to work alone and with a team
* Able to live and work with few amenities in a harsh and unforgiving
environment
* Must be available from July 1st through September 15th (flexible training times for first two weeks, then we move up to Gerlach on July 15th for show time).
