Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.

Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

Yesterday, July 12, 2011, my daughter turned 15.

I've been listening to way too much black metal lately hence the grim expressions.

A friend of mine is in the same boat, only her daughter is also 2 inches taller than she is at this point too.

I love teenagers...serusily..have two of my own..
I love the look on her face..tells the whole story..

"OMG my dad is dork, If I didn't love him, there is no way I would be standing here while a picture is taken of him being a super dork with his arm around me, please let this be over quik, and please god don't let him post it on some fourm where all my friends can see it"

I think adults get too good at hiding thier feelings.

Mine is 14 and looks like she is 20...thinking seriusly about getting her a t-shirt with the words "JAIL BAIT" on it just because she has been hit on by older men so many times...some right in front of me!
she should have some kind of warning.

Feeling your pain, my sixteen year-old daughter is 5'10" and a senior this year. We're already looking at colleges and financial aid. Wait until you get to THAT stage.

Dozer, you're a cad, and I love you for it!

I wouldn't worry about Dozer and my 16 y.o. ............... she would kick his ass. No really. Granted she's tall enough he'd likely just hope to loose an eye to her nipples...............

Sam, Ames, Mtne, do you guys "understand" your daughters? And what are these "feelings" they speak of.

I find it's easier, and more efficient, to communicate with my daughter via the interweb. It's the only time I get her attention.

Seriously though, we do have a pretty good relationship, and she's really open about communicating with The Hot Wife of DOOM!(tm), but it's a bit of a struggle for me to accept that our relationship has changed in the last couple of years and I'm trying to keep up with how and sort of re-learn who she is. Part of life and growing up.

On the plus side, she's into all the geeky shit I am, so we have that.
Cheers,
Ames.

I have a limited idea. I'm actually not a parent in that respect as I have no day to day interaction, they live in Manhattan with their mom's. I do try and keep up using FB (why I signed up) and txt, but even then it's like pulling teeth. Sarah's been in Japan for 5 of 7 weeks, hasn't emailed or updated her blog. One email to her mom telling her what she wanted her to bring to the airport when getting picked up...... fairly independent I guess.

At least I got one of them fairly interested in bikes.....

Funny how she could flat foot the 1200GS at 15 and stand up my 950SE........... 37" seat height.......

I'm only thankful that I have at least another 10-12 years or so before I have to deal with the true realities of having a daughter. Right now she's still little and cute, but...
