Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.

You know the email (if you don't, see in the registration info below), you know where to find the Administerrerrerr on the Midget Circus.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

It is a UAM, and can do just about anything with some credibility. Tour, twisties, commute, its got great torque, there's unlimited mods, the 883 is good for about 55-60hp with some decent mods, and well over 100hp (assuming HP is a number that matters to you) if you go the big-bore path. Flat track body work and suspension upgrades for some street cred, admittedly out of the box the SV is a better idea, but if its a unique bike with style you are looking for, the 883 Sportster is hard to beat.
Buy one, thank me later.
Indeed, I loved my sporty! However, bang for buck it's spendy. You have to change the bars (what is up with that stock rubber stabilizer wonky mess under the bars?!!). Mine was dead reliable and fun. However, the twisties made me pucker.

It's a great idea if Sportsters happen to be your thing and you want a project bike, not so much if they are not and you just want to ride.

Personally, I would buy the Raptor simply because I could. If I moved to a country and had previously unavailable bikes within easy reach I would have to sample at least one. As always do your homework on them throughly and buy the best one you can afford and if you have the need to get something else you can always sell it.

Indeed, there is a part of me that thinks the exact same way. Clearly, I'm not the most practical bike buyer on this board. The allure of acquiring tasty local bits that are not worldly available (I'd have a new Cagiva Mito in about 10 seconds if I could get one) would have me buying more difficult bikes. If I'm down to one bike though, it's gotta be an old reliable (a honda 919, VFR, Suzuki SV650, Yamaha FZ1 or 6)

It's too heartbreaking to have to wait for your exotic to mend on a sunny day.

Dude...you are in Australia. You have to get something 1000 cc or larger. You'll be shunned by the post-apocalyptic crowd if you don't. Besides, a 650 won't have a chance in hell of out running a cop driving a super-charged Ford Falcon.

Just saying.
