Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

BOOM! The cure for Leukemia!

DENISE GRADY on NYtimes.com wrote:At first, nothing happened. But after 10 days, hell broke loose in his hospital room. He began shaking with chills. His temperature shot up. His blood pressure shot down. He became so ill that doctors moved him into intensive care and warned that he might die. His family gathered at the hospital, fearing the worst.

A few weeks later, the fevers were gone. And so was the leukemia.

There was no trace of it anywhere — no leukemic cells in his blood or bone marrow, no more bulging lymph nodes on his CT scan. His doctors calculated that the treatment had killed off two pounds of cancer cells.
Imagine your immune system killing off two pounds of cells...I mean, holy weightloss Batman, that's a lot!

If there were absolutely anything to be afraid of, don't you think I would have worn pants?

I said I have a big stick.

So, the cure for Cancer is AIDS?
Never would have seen that one coming.
Adding pink and unicorns makes everything better.

Treatment may include things like riding motorcycles and crocheting… whatever it takes to counteract the deleterious effects of existence. - Rolly

This gives me a tiny sliver of hope. Lupus ain't leukemia, but any research into immune system tweaking might eventually yield something beneficial for me and others in my position.

Fuck it! Bring on the nanites!

gg, I'm just curious if you've ever looked into diet as a possible means to dealing with autoimmune diseases such as lupus. There is a diet that works well for arthritis, among other things. It takes a lot of discipline and can cost more than eating regular crap off the store shelves but still, you are what you eat.

Indeed, it's something I've attempted my whole life, but it takes more money and discipline than I have, plus there's no real set diet plan for dealing with lupus. It's easy to pick the tomatoes off my hamburger, not so easy to follow a strict diet of healthy ingredients, especially when I'm on Prednisone, which makes it seem more than just okay to eat EVERYTHING I CAN GET MY FUCKING HANDS ON!!! :/
