Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Cool for the exposure, but not so cool for those who don't think Manga is for kids.

In Japan there are Manga for all occasions. There are even "Manga" that companies use for training manuals.

"Cool for the exposure, but not so cool for those who don't think Manga is for kids"

There are Manga for kids, and pornographics Manga, and everything in between. Maybe I don't understand what you mean...

I realize that there are many different levels of Manga, but I'm referring to the fact that mainstream exposure for a lot of people will be in the Sunday funnies.
By putting manga in the "funny pages" it gives the impression that manga are comics, like Peanuts or Garfield. Kind of like my father's impression that when I'm watching "Akira" or "Grave of the Fireflies" (the war movie that I think everyone should see) that I'm watching "cartoons" like Hannah Barberra.

Actually, it's "Grave of the Fireflies" and it's one of the most beautiful and brutal war movies I've ever seen. It was put out by Studio Ghibli ("My Neighbor Totoro", "Castle in the Sky", "Kiki's Delivery Service") and follows two small childrens' struggle to survive in Japan during WWII. It's a heartbreaking movie that has made just about everyone I know snotty-cry, but the reality of the situation makes it a must see for...well...everyone. You'll definately think differently about the cost of war.

It's also quite possibly the most depressing movie ever made. I had to take a break about half way through, just to keep for slitting my wrists. Good times.

hentai = perverted.
ecchi = normal porno, but milder.

usually hentai involves something you'd consider "out of the mainstream" for even hardcore porn.

like a monster with dozens of 5 mile long tentacle penises raping the teen schoolgirls in the city it's destroying while it eats the genitals of one of the protagonists.

or just degradation and domination.

i'd also have to give a recommendation for Grave of the Fireflies.

and it is helluva brutal sad. i'm not ashamed to say that it made me cry too. for like from the end of the movie, through the creds and 20 minutes after.

Why isn't manga suitable for kids? Isn't it non porn illustration or animation in the Nippon style?
Perhaps I'm not clear on my terms, but I'm thinking manga equates to Speed Racer. Other than suffering from "engrish" translation and really bad voice overs, there's nothing too objectionable about it, is there?

"Speed Racer" and "Battle of the Planets" are anime (Japanese animation). Manga are the comic equivelent of anime. My point is people equate anime, and by extension manga, to the lowest level of anime that they've been exposed to. "Speed Racer" is harmless fun, but not at all indicative of the complexity and wonderful story-telling that Manga are capable of.
