Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

Teacher Accused of Giving 'Liberal Quiz'

Post by Ames » Fri Nov 25, 2005 10:42 pm

"I wish Bush would be (coherent, eschewed) for once during a speech, but there are theories that his everyday diction charms the below-average mind, hence insuring him Republican votes,"
So...where's he wrong? The shrub is a stammering dolt.

I agree with this teacher's right to do this; hell, I've done similiar, but the reason you haven't seen my name in the press for this is because I balance my criticisms in class (well, I try to). For every shrub remark he needed to have a "Clinton" or a "Gore" or a "Nader" sentence to cover his ass.

We educators by and large are liberals, that's usually the result of being taught to look at the world around you and ask questions (actually the government really taught me this one) instead of swallowing party rhetoric like pablum. Strange though, isn't it, that in a world that's supposedly filled with "Liberal agenda's" like the schools, the press, television that we keep breeding conservatives. Perhaps the schools are doing their jobs after all and the conservatives are now the ones who need to toughen the fuck up. :P

Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union Superintendent Wesley Knapp said he would not want his children subjected to such teaching.

"It's absolutely unacceptable," he said. "They (teachers) don't have a license to hold forth on a particular standpoint."
Obviously, he's never met the Superintendent of Schools for the state of Kansas.

I wonder what the reaction would be if he tounge and cheek attacked Cindy Sheehan?

The whole thing is silly. Making tests like this doesn't further their English edjucation but only distracts from it. Things like this should be confined to the proper course.

He would have gotten a medal of freedom.

I hope that was on purpose.

I don't think it's a distraction as much as it is a teacher trying to bring real-world signifigance to an assignment. Sometimes humor is the best approach to use since it captures attention and aids in retention.

I always appreciated teachers inserting their own opinions tongue-in-cheek as long as they weren't trying to convert anyone. It makes them seem like real people instead of robots.
