Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

i didn't do anything. some folks would call me a shitty parent for not checking homework (i call it demanding personal responsibility) or otherwise micromanaging the kids. i told all of them that their education was their job and they'd just better do it.

she made the choice in 9th grade to do extra classes via the computer, because she was bored. she did summer school for the same reason. and she kept it up until we moved to this town where it wasn't an option unless a student failed a class, which she never did.

in december she did the math and figured out she only needed four one semester classes to graduate this year so she asked me to enroll her in those four high school classes at an online program through texas tech. basically she did the equivalent of 12 classes this last semester. four of them Advanced Placement.
and didn't break a sweat.

she wants to be a theoretical physicist. or a mathematician.

i could brag on her more.
fuck it all.

Huzzah!

And holey smokes, brains and the motivation to do something with them. Sounds like she can pull off just about whatever she wants.

I must beg to differ.

Setting a good example can still be a lot of work, and I bet you at least did that.

Your daughter is everything most people want their kids to be. Not just the biological stuff, but in behavior and acquired abilities. All that while you yourself were working on you education, riding motorbikes and on your parental lonesome. You are a super-parent by definition, other parents should bow before you and seek your wisdom. Write a book, you'll make a mint.

Just out of curiosity, when she does watch entertainment television, does she prefer Big Bang Theory over Kardashians and similar stuff? I was wondering for a while if that show joins Star Trek in making kids desire being smart.

actually that show (we are all fangirls) inspired her to try calculus and physics this past year. she loves both subjects.

as for the kardashians, what show are they on? i never see them on the tv at all. the kids do control the tv since i don't watch it much. but we tend to prefer movies anyway. or anime.

and lest you all think that all she has been doing is schoolwork:

anytime there was an event requiring something nice, she sewed her own dresses.
she also has a part-time job answering the phone at a pizza place.
she also participates in our martial arts classes about once a week.

Careful. When career decisions come up, someone with such and work ethic might well opt for something involving a hollowed-out volcano and missile codes. I'll hope for all of us that, of the jobs involving these two, she goes for US president.
