Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

What could possibly go wrong?

Post by Sisyphus » Tue Oct 22, 2013 1:30 pm

Saw this last night, I could probably shake some trees to find the money but it'd definitely cost me my RD350. First generation SV650, looks like the guy either doesn't know what he's doing or maybe he's not telling the whole thruth:

Hm ... the thought occurs that his parts list reads like it alone would cost more than the $1000 he's asking.
The truth could be harmless, though. The bike might, indeed, be fine. He just might really, really, seriously need the cash. Or he had previously tried selling it for a reasonable price, found no takers, and needs to clear out garage space.
Or he did, in fact, put on all these parts. With duct tape, on the seat.
If there were absolutely anything to be afraid of, don't you think I would have worn pants?

I said I have a big stick.

A bike that had to be partially rebuilt and painted, including bars, tail and speedo... what it probably doesn't say is that it was munched by a tyrannosaur then thrown in a fire.

Can't hurt to check it out. A new tank shouldn't be that much and you're right about the parts.

Hard to go wrong with a SV. And if you decide you'd rather have the RD just flip the SV for easy profit.

Caswel epoxy saved my VF1000R tank, there was no metal left, just rust and paint, Caswel fixed it!

This does not sound legit.
Ya, I am with the "munched by a tyrannosaur then thrown in a fire" thought too.
New Frame covers + repaint = crashed
thats obvious, only q is how bad. I am thinking bad though.

Mileage exempt because of a replacement speedo? Even if that is the law, dont tell he DMV it is not stock. I have never had them check a vehicle, nor do I think they would kow what they were looking at if they did.

Also, will trad for a boom stick, but not a shotgun or a rifle? Ok... so nothing really useful, just handguns then. Hummm that seems fishy to me. Can he not trade in a long gun for a handgun?

Still, if you want her, take it for a ride. Look and listen for yourself

I haven't had a chance to deal with it yet; I basically caused a shitstorm at the mere mention of another bike, even though I explained I was going to sell the RD to fund the next bike. Apparently I suck at explaining the order in which it would have to happen or the word "motorcycle" causes mental blockage and temper tantrums.
Either way, I have to travel for work next week, and the RD is awaiting a fresh top end on one side, the timing just sucks for me right now. It'll probably suck no matter what I do.

I'd rather ask forgiveness than permission, but I'm not married.

That RD is mighty cool, but this SV would better serve you, providing it doesn't have something deeply wrong with it.

Sucks you can't have both... got any guns you can swap?

Ha! I once had an entire car (Trans-Am) in the garage for a month before my then fiance noticed.
Another bike would just disappear into the tangle of handlebars already there.

Just get it and "Forget to mention it"...

<sledit> You know it occurs to me that after being married (blissfully?) for sixteen years come Thursday I have not once asked permission or had any lengthy discussions about buying more motorcycles. :D </sledit>

So the SV came back up on CL, I've got the RD up as well; I'm trying to go look at it maybe this weekend. Here's the part where I need help. I have little idea what to look at/for on one of these. Obviously check the oil, chain/sprockets, shocks, swingarm bushes, I already know the tank is rusted inside. Tires are supposed to be alright but I think that'd be the least of my problems if it has any.
Seller is now disclosing that the bike has been down in the past by one of its previous owners. THERE ARE ALSO PICS.
Is there anything about this bike that would say "walk away?"

Here's a link to the revised CL listing:

Wow. At that price I'd want to ride it. Bring stands if you can to check the wheels, forks, swingarm stuff. Make sure they know to leave it cold for you and warm it up and run it through the gears and give a good listen. I'd be tempted at that price........ The 01 SV we had was some of the best bang for the buck fun road bike I've had. And upgrades are easy with GSXR parts. But if it hasn't been picked up already try and figure out what spooked the previous potential buyer............

Agreed on all fronts. Only real issue I ever really had with my SV -- and it only happened after she went down the first time -- was that the front cylinder would sometimes conk out when it got wet. Ask if it has issues when it rains. Even if it does there should be easy fixes, just good to know.
