Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

It's probably not a good thing for me that your "less than memorable" cars are all the junk that I like  Where did I go wrong?

Hehe, almost all my cars have been "junk" at one time...

Pictures will come as I find them to scan.

78 Chevette 2-door - First car, was a POS from the factory. Went through absolute hell and survived. Still seen today lurking about with a trail of blue smoke now. Probably the most reliable car I've ever owned.

75 Pontiac Grand Prix - Found in a field and bough for (I think) $175. Me and my stepdad painted it aircraft insignia white (there is none more white). I could park next to any white car and make it look yellow. I swear the doors were over four feet long. Dark red interior I had all recovered. Longer than my Dad's Merc Grand Marquis by nearly a foot. 400 Pontiac BigBlock once twisted off a driveshaft. Engine had approx 260k on it when I yanked it out and sold the hull. Worst mistake on selling a car I have ever made. Still have the engine. Love that car, will find another one day.

73 Chevy Camper Special (Big Black Truck) Built 350/th350 12 bolt posi rear, and BIG rear sway bar. Was made for those campers that go in the bed. Had suburban rear brakes was lifted about three inches and was flat black people scrambled out of it's way. The engine ate itself hauling a friends race car home one day so we yanked the drivetrain (including the twelve bolt and sway bar) and sold the hull.

Bought an delta88 same as RF above because my wife's cousin was gonna need a car and it was solid and cheap. Dove it in the iterim, and hated it (sorryRF).

89 Pontiac Grand Am - Wifes car. Ended up with the Higher output quad (LMO?) from the factory somehow. Reliable and fun to drive, but suffering from Gm build quality on the interior. Engine was a joy though, Sold it with nearly 200k on the clock.

79 Pontiac TransAm (noticing a trend) Drove it for a while with a hurt 403, stripped it and built a 455, then stalled due to lack of funds and sold. Sad really, not there is a complete 455 and TH400 sitting in the ship with noplace to go...

75 Silverado - farmer truck, local trade, cheap, cold air. Rebuilt the drivetrain from the 73 and swapped it into this truck. Over the last ten years it has always started and moved (literally) tons of stuff. Still around, has passed between family members as needed.

99 Nissan Frontier XE 4X4 King Cab 5-speed V6. Bought in 01 driven a lot, sold in 08. In that time I had to replace the cap, rotor, spark plugs, tires, and oil. Nice truck. Would get another one as long as I could pay cash (selling it allowed me to realize a family dream of having everything paid off but the house). Never got stuck, never stranded me, survived a flood, a F3 tornado (I live in KS) and a big deer hit. Liked that truck. Local kid owns it now, if it is ever for sale I may buy it back.

01 GMC Jimmy - Why no one buys American...

03 Impala - Umm, it's an Impala, it does it's job.

88 Nissan Hardbody (D21) four banger, five speed. Purchased for almost nothing with a spun rod bearing. My dad rebuilt the Z24I and now it is a stone reliable if spartan transport. May become a go-kart.

I have a silver 2005 Toyota Matrix XRS. It's a great car - probably the best one that I've owned.

My last car was a 2003 Audi TT - and due to all of the electrical problems I sold it before the warranty ran out. That was a fun bad ass car to drive and some time I still miss it.

But I've been told that I drive my Matrix as if it was a sports car - I mean it's got 6 gears - shouldn't I be using all of them especially when it doesn't red line until about 8 grand?

The sticker finally wore off but I used to have 'You just got passed by a wagon" on the back window. lol

It's not as clean as it looks, there's gobs of body filler falling off it's got rust going on here and there and it's usually covered in pine tar and bird poo. Moderately built roller cam 302 with afr heads, limited slip rear with 3.80s. I also put in an aod overdrive trans with an auto/manual valvebody & ratchet shifter. fun but not the fastest thing around or anything. I welded the stock shifter handle & sunk the ratchet mechanism as low as possible so it'd fit under the console & look bone stock. Open the ashtray to reveal a shift light. Gets an honest 25 mpg at 65 on the freeway. still plenty of bugs to work out & it really needs some discs in front.

it's for sale, kind of. maybe. My cousin and his wife have thrown in the towel on our plan to reclaim the dunes for fiberglass volkswagen buggies. The traitors sold their two (pictured below) and bought one fancy V-Tech powered long travel snooty sand car.

plans call for a turbo subaru or similar motor to help me keep up with cousin's snooty ride. Hopefully by fall?

I picked it up just before that horrid gone in 60 seconds eleanor craze. At the craze's height I probably could have thrown together an eleanor, sold it & paid off my house, but I'm nowhere near that smart. Instead I vow that so long as I draw breath there will be one 68 fastback mustang that is not an eleanor clone. I built a stroker 331 topped off with Webers -it'll have 8 open stacks through the hood. 5 speed manual, discs, 8.8 rear w/ 4.10s, etc...
All proceeds go to help cripple children.

Bringing this thread back from the grave because my soccer mom short bus took a dump and is probably going to end up as scrap metal. But I pick up my new rainy day/winter beater tomorrow night!

1981 Mercedes 300SD turbo diesel for a whopping $600! It has bit of rust but not too bad, a broken right side mirror and one of the back windows has come off the track. Otherwise everything works and it's a full load luxobarge. Runs like a top, doesn't smoke out the tailpipe and rides like a big comfy couch on wheels.

I love my bike but also have had a long love affair with the cage.

Right now the stable is:

2001 Ford Expedition - the toter, puller and refuge when it's 30 degrees and icy

2003 Toyota Avalon XL - my wifes
1992 Mercedes 300E - for sale, $3500, anyone?

1983 Mazda RX7 - ICSCC/SCCA ITA Race Car - not street legal, snarling, loud and smelly but batshit fast and looks cool. Runs mixed gas like a 2 cycle, lives in a Wells Cargo 20ft race trailer, thus the Expedition.

1972 Datsun 510 2 door - I love 510s, plain and simple. My last race car was a 510 SPU car I ran in the ICSCC road racing series and never should have sold. This current one is a rolling chassis soon to be blackened. I'm weighing engine/trans swaps right now. Part of me wants the original L16/L18, but lately I've been thinking about switching it to a Ford 3.8L V6 out of a Mustang.

I'll get some pics up soon.

The green one is the TDI sedan. The wagon is my wife's, it's a gasser.

I used to have one of these:

And it had all of this stuff:

But I sold it to pay to have the engine rebuilt on my bike after spinning a main bearing. I sold it to some sucker in NH.

Just bought a 2003 Mazda Protege5 two days ago. Haven't owned a car in six years.

It is white and fast. I plan on getting a giant octopus to cover the front hood and down the sides. On the back bumper will be a sticker that states: "Protected by a giant Octopus."

Previous/favoritest ride
'91 Audi 100. Power windows, heated seats, sunroof, and a fucking tank of a car. Took out an astrovan in a snowstorm, pushed that bastard into a ditch with only a broken headlight on my part. No problems at all, except the heater only blew when the wheel was turned to the right, so in the winter I'd drive around in circles in front of my house to warm up.

Current
'86 Ford F150 with the 4.9. 4 speed, gets 14mpg and leaks, no, pisses oil all over the place when I park it. Also leaks power steering fluid and coolant disappears. (where? who knows.) Supposed to be bulletproof, but last few days I haven't been able to get the fucker to start. Spin spin spin the starter but not the motor..Who knows...
