Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

While I agree that the expansion of the Great Chruch of the Arcleseizure is a good bit, I don't see why Zaphod doesn't have two proper heads like in the book. Furthermore, I don't see why at least one of them, and I don't care which, isn't being played by Bruce Campbell! THAT'S my vision for this movie!
Cheers,
Ames.

Oh, I so agree with you. I so agree with you. I am already dreading the release of this film.......if I watch it, my fond memories of the books will for ever by tainted.......if I don't watch it, I will almost certainly live with that nagging feeling that maybe it would have been good....
But seriously, that isn't all I am angry with......did you look at those sketches? Marvin having a big head, okay......but the the first book specified, beyond any discussion, that the heart of gold would be shaped like a running shoe.......and not a bloody sphere! Definitely not a bloody sphere!
I fear that, to make a bit of extra cash, these asswipes changed all these little bits so normal people, with their normal, boring, non-imaginative minds would like it.

Why on earth couldn't they hire Sam Raimi for this one? Why does he have to make King Kong instead?

Sorry to be a bit off topic here but I'm neither too fond of Sam Raimi as an director nor do I think the world needs yet another remake of King Kong (BIG YAWN)

BTW, which skyscaper will he climb this time since the one (two) from the last movie are down now?

ARFGHF!H!! My bad, but Raimi isn't doing King Kong, that's Peter Jackson...........Raimi is doing a bunch of horror films and stuff.

Specifically, I beileve Raimi is working on Spiderman 3, then he has plans to do another "Evil Dead" movie (not to be confused with the remake of "Evil Dead" that someone else is going to direct). Confused yet?

Why the hell isn't Terry Gilliam directing this? He's brilliant, he's irreveriant, he's actually KNOWN Douglas Adams, and he'd make sure that Zaphod had two proper heads (one of which could be played by Bruce Campbell)!

Damnit Hollywood, I've got a lot to say about this sort of thing. Why the hell aren't you calling me?

Isn't Hollywood a strange place? For every shitty flick they're hiring british and aussie actors to bring some believable and serious acting between the fashion catalog hollywood stars (Star Wars, Troy!) but once something typical british comes up, they try it with their own crowd. Yep, Terry Gilliam would've been the right choice as the director.

Ahem ... sorry it IS a new movie :P

If that film sucks, I will start a letter campaign to have it remade entirely, directed by either Gilliam or Raimi, and contractual clauses forbiding them from hiring anyone American or shooting in the US (unless the location shots absolutely require it....allthough I wouldn't see why they should).

With the exception of Bruce Campbell as one (I don't care which) of Zaphod's heads. Have I mentioned how fond I am of this idea? Perhaps Cristopher Walken could play the other.

Why, this looks okay I think:

Also, whoever applies for direction of this film would have to pass a bit of an entry test by making a short of this:

Whoever manages the greatest impact with the least gratuitous sfx wins.

Off topic:
I personally am waiting for the remake of the 70's classic "The thing with 2 heads!" Is Rosie Greer still alive? That chase scene (2.5 up) was one of the funniest things I've ever seen!

with CGI being the way it is today 2 heads would not have been a stretch at all.

Im not pretending that I could make this movie well but i know a bad idea when i hear it, and a one headed zaphod is a BAD IDEA!

Though they may be screwing up Zaphod, it seems that the directors are doing Marvin up correctly. Word on the internet is that none other than Alan Rickman will be voicing the character of "Marvin the Depressed Robot " (I guess that "Marvin the Paranoid Android" had a bit too much assonance for the producers and scared them). Still though, Mr. Rickman should be wonderfully droll for the part. This, at least, is news that I like.

'Kay, I know this is a bit off topic, but I was just reading over at Ain't it Cool News that there's a promotion to win some replica props http://www.necaonline.com/hhgg/ from the movie; all you have to do is write some Vogon poetry.

The Beeb already did a perfectly good job of fucking it up badly.
They made a 5 or 6 part TV series in the early eighties. It was horrible.

It would seem that The Guide has found a voice. Stephen Fry, probably best known to many of us as Gen. Sir Anthony Cecil Hogmanay Melchett from "Black Adder Goes Forth" (as well as a couple of other Black Adder series), or as the narrator of the audio texts for Harry Potter (which if you're familiar with makes me wonder, why are you reading this then you lazy bastards?), and stared in "Wilde" for my fellow fairly obscure film fans. Apparently he was quite a good friend of the late/great Douglas Adams. Not a bad choice, though I still would have prefirred Avery Brooks.
Cheers,
