Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

Nobody seems to remember this show but me. Talking hats and Charles Nelson Reilly, Sid and Marty Krofft at their finest with Lidsville.

i remember.
and all of the sid and marty krofft stuff that went with it.
i don't know what the hell those fellows had access to, but it wasn't weed, or if it was, they had garbage bags full of it. when i was older, i tried to smoke my way to lidsville and i couldn't even get half way.

related:
at the time, charles nelson reilly was a true superstar, in the sense that a gay man could be in the 70's. he was the real star of lidsville. two things about him. first, he starred in another kids show - the unbelievably snarky 'uncle croc's block', in which he played a very strange kids show host (look it up - it was actually good - sarcasm, mean spiritedness, creepy oddness, it had it all)

and second, he was the baddest motherfucker ever to live;

ow my head.

*shakes cane*

here's a short list of krofft titles to youtube. most are epic.

h. r. pufnstuff
sigmund and the sea monsters (they're making a movie. yes, really.)
krofft supershow (containing dr. shrinker, wonderbug, bigfoot and wildboy, electrawoman and dynagirl and others)
the bugaloos (don't search for this or you'll be sorry, really)

and the well-remembered land of the lost.

(edited to correct the fact that i can't type bugaloos, even when i know it's not bugaboos)

Heh, Wierd Al still cracks me up. I actually ran across the Lidsville vid linked from a Metafilter post for that video.

Oh, and it's the Bugaloos.

Damn hippies.

I liked the Bugaloos!

When I was was a wee laddie, my dad took me on the set of Sigmund and The Sea Monsters. He knew someone that worked on the show. Got to meet Billy Barty. Wish I (or my dad) was smart enough to get autographs.

I watched plenty of Krofft as a kid, but somehow managed to miss that one.

I loved Pufnstuf and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters (Land of the Lost goes without saying). Bugaloos drove me absolutely nuts. Before I even knew what gay meant, I knew that the Bugaloos were far too gay for my taste (even though I grew up to love ABBA). I was always upset when the Sid and Marty Krofft hour featured a Bugaloos episode. Only slightly less annoying for me was the Lost Saucer, featuring Jim Neighbors.

As for CNR - here's a fantastic interview.
