First fix:
  • open the menu at the top
  • hit New Posts to see what's actually new and browse the new stuff from there

Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

(Sorry I can't get this link to work as an image)
Now of course you realize that this is Buggery and James doesn't have the balls to do something that isn't a glorified Harley (not without a jumungous corporate check behind it). This is actually a teaser pic of the bike from "Ghostrider" and I just thought I'd post it and see what happened from there.

Enjoy.

Cheers,
Ames.

For crying out loud, I found it and put it in my personal album.

I don't particularly like it, but the rider would never have to worry about cold tires, though....

Yeah, ghost-rider's actual bike was more of a standard with a cool armored fairing thing, not an uuugly sculpted chrome jobberdoo. Too bad they went all discovery-channel with it. How does a guy swing a chain when he's too worried about falling over in the next corner? And what about those U-turns at the end of alleyways just to make sure you finished the guy off? How scary can a 3-point turn POSSIBLY be!?

Sounds like someone forgot to press their "I believe" button. Don't worry, it happens to me all the time.

Sorry, musta been in militant anti-corporate-chopper mode. Just seems like so many of those bikes are the exact same design with other cosmetic variations bolted on. They're like cellphone faces now, for pete's sake!

Right click on the red x in your post...go to properties...grab the URL, paste it into the address bar...you will see the picture....hit the back button to get back to the post...you will now see the picture there as well instead of the red x....I think it has something to do with Internet related temp directories on your computer....

its the point that when it was posted, it showed up not only on my comp, but my roomates comp, yet DerGolgo had to go and make a new image link for others to see it at a later time.

The original old school Ghost Rider rode a chopper that he could ride and control with thought if need be (in Hellbike form). It was not the armoured version you see in the Marvel universe today.

You're roommate's computer is possessed by the Devil...smash it at once before it destroys you both....I am in the process of doing the same to my work computer. My boss does not seem amused.

It's probably something to do with hotlinking images....many people don't like it if people steal their bandwidth, so their server is set to only respond to the GET command for the image if the same IP previously requested the page the image is displayed in.
