Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.

You know the email (if you don't, see in the registration info below), you know where to find the Administerrerrerr on the Midget Circus.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

Again, if you have any problems: get in touch.

Is It Spring Yet?

Post by guitargeek » Thu Dec 24, 2009 2:24 pm

No? Now long until it is Spring?

We got a fucking blizzard in J'Oklahoma! 22F, 65 mph winds blowing chunks of ice sideways. All the highways are closed, national guard is out rescuing people stranded in the ditches.

I'm just hoping we don't lose power again...

Holy white out.

Yesterday's weather apparently broke some sort of records. We've often had more volume of precipitation, but the wind was so fierce that these snow drifts would appear in minutes.

It took everybody by surprise, so there were lots of stories on the news about people stuck in their cars without adequate clothing. Being xmas eve, lots of assholes were driving around, trying to do their last minute shopping. As a result, there are literally thousands of abandoned cars on the streets of OKC: Big, frozen pile-ups at every intersection. To make it worse, many of the plows and sand trucks were overwhelmed by the snow and got stuck.

I know that those of you in more northerly climes scoff, but we're just not used to seeing this sort of thing here. It's a bit of a novelty and we're not prepared for it... but the weather in J'Oklahoma is always full of surprises. We get snow a few times a year, but more often it's a thick coating of ice, making driving extremely treacherous.

I was supposed to drive my dad to my aunt's house for xmas dinner today, but there's no way the Sentra could make it out to the road, let alone to town (the driveway is 1/4 mile long, uphill, and the snow's about a foot deep on average). The good news is that it's up to 38 and the sun is beating down, so this stuff is melting at a pretty good clip and the highways are open again.

I'm supposed to go pick up my nieces tomorrow, hopefully that trip won't entail any undue drama...
