First fix:

  • hit New Posts to see what's actually new and browse the new stuff from there
  • go back to the Forum Index
  • open the menu at the top again
  • click Mark forums read
    this will zero the unread anything for you, so you can strive forth into the exciting world of the new cookie thing.


Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

Way too many women qand children get thrown under the bus by being neglected or abandoned or simply dismissed off as cases not worthy of getting involved with.

This wasn't easy. It was extremely frustrating some times, as M couldn't break things off right away. One thing I've learned, being known as a believer in, and practitioner of logic, is the human psyche is wqay deeper and much more complex than simple logic.

It was logical, in our view, mine especially, for M to simply realize the physical and psychological dangers of not separating and getting restraining orders. It was as if it were this simple:

"Why of course, now that you put it this way, I'm a fool for not walking away the minute you explained all this to me from a rational perspective." That was naive tinking of me. It was a lifetime of exposure to this behavior that "we" had to break for her to "get it."

And by the way, again, my wife did 90% of the work here, and it was harder even, as her boys are real pains in the ass --alot. It's so exausting being around them, but no one deserved this treatment, period.

I'm sure we'll hit a few more bumps along the road, but I think M's doing OK now

Trust me, there were times when I wished he'd do one more ting to give me a reason, but in the end, it would only have gotten me in trouble, and even possibly put my wife and boys in harm's way.

But thje sad thing, is, the pussy that he is, he hasn't resisted one single bit. I think he's doing only what he wants, and that is to drink and gamble and drink some more whenever he wants. He doesn't seem to care about, or even miss his boys. I can see him not giving a shit about M, but his sons? I can't even wrap my brain around that one.

He's a real pathetic piece of shit, and now that the one person in his life that he could bully is gone--he's harmless and insignificant--worthy of being forgotten altogether.

Who knows, maybe a saint will come around and help him climb out of his miseries and get him to reform--it's possible, but since I'm no saint, it won't be me--not unless I've already helped many others before him who were way more worthy of my effort and compassion.
