If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.
If you have problems logging in, posting, or doing anything else, please get in touch.
You know the email (if you don't, see in the registration info below), you know where to find the Administerrerrerr on the Midget Circus.
Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.
To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.
Again, if you have any problems: get in touch.

First fix:
Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.
Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.
PLEASE NOTIFY THE ADMINISTERRERRERR ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS!
- open the menu at the top
- hit New Posts to see what's actually new and browse the new stuff from there
- go back to the Forum Index
- open the menu at the top again
- click Mark forums read
this will zero the unread anything for you, so you can strive forth into the exciting world of the new cookie thing.

Another way to mess with people
So when I was a wee lad, Grampaw set me on his knee and said "Boy, find what you do best, and do it."
One thing I'm good at is irritating people around me, especially my wife. I found something new, and she hasn't found out yet. I hooked up another mouse to her computer, so when she uses her mouse, I use mine. Mouse wars. She knows something's fucked up because cursors can't sneak into my rum, but hers clearly acts drunk. she's been getting more chagrined lately.
Try it. Good times.

My wife thinks the Roku remote is broken ever since I found the Android app for that.

Heh, good one Zer0. I may have to try that out on the wifey.
In high school we had a bunch of Apple Pet computers which shared dot matrix printers and 5 1/4 floppy drives through a switch box. A buddy and I figured out how to type on one computer and when you hit enter it would come up on the other machine sharing the switch. We naturally used our discovery to fuck with a guy neither of us cared for due to his temperamental nature. After he spent an hour or so entering a program in BASIC the fun began.
He types "run"
The computer responds "too many pancakes error"
"What?!?"
"run"
"too many pancakes in line 40"
"What the fuck is this shit!?!"
"list 40"
"40 pancakes=238"
"Fucking piece of shit!!! Fucking machine!!!"
At this point he starts banging on the keyboard and slamming stuff around resulting in a lockup of both machines. I had to leave the room to keep from busting out laughing and giving away the whole game. Good times.

Not quite as devious, but I was put in charge of the Mac labs in college and given the ONLY password for the system (which I immediately changed). I reset all of the computers so they'd sing, "You are and idiot. Ha, ha, ha, ha, hahaha, ha, ha, ha, ha, haaaaa." every time someone made an error.
I'd sit at my desk and listen to the choir (which ran pretty much non-stop during finals week) laughing myself silly.
Maybe I should have told them what I reset the password to when I graduated?

Brilliant, ames! Wish I had been that clever (and adept at programming) ... most I ever did on classroom computers (back on an Apple IIe) was write a code that caused a stream of Asteroid-like gunnery ships to scroll up the screen. It only lasted a day before it got nixed ... probably why I didn't go into programming as a career.Ames wrote: I reset all of the computers so they'd sing, "You are and idiot. Nah ... that would have deprived some snarky computer whiz kid the pleasure of cracking your password.
