Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

How's your Friday afternoon?

Post by Rench » Fri Jan 07, 2011 12:36 pm

I'm actually taking an amount of enjoyment from my unsustainable American lifestyle. Sitting on my sofa, my seat pre-heated by my obnoxiously large dog, the world's wealth of information available in my left hand, 1600 channels in my right, the snow gently falls. 14:30 on a Friday, I'm feeling uncomfortably pacified at the moment.

How are all y'all?

i'm alternating between hiding under a large blanket trying to hold down some water and vomiting into a bucket located next to my bed. The warehouse I live in has no heat, and I have to poop.My whole body aches, I called out from work, and an important package that I had overnighted at substantial cost did not get delivered, despite my being at home the entire time.

No heat in my apartment either, and as of two hours ago, no hot water either. Day five without heat. Sitting next to a space heater listening to the workers banging away in the walls. Furniture pushed into clumps to accomodate workmen, cats shut in the bathroom, gritty plaster dust on everything. New radiators in place, gritty rotted holes where the old ones came out, lost the outlet for my tv when new radiator was screwed to the wall over top of it- tv now runs on a series of extension cords from another room, just like my fridge. Internet working fine. Wife and I feeling a renewed vigor in our pursuit of home ownership.

Getting over the worst cold (bug) I've had in awhile. Nose still running, ache, no energy. It cuts down on bike wrenching time, not happy.

It sounds like it's one extreme or the other, my condolences to those on the rough end. I'm relaxing at one of the local coffeehouses, working on an illustration of an octopus and hoping that the rain (which is just sprinkling atm) doesn't turn into one of those heavy freezing downpours. Life is good, vicodin should be working soon and if the weather goes to hell I'm in a tiny warm oasis filled with fast internet, tasty food, really damn good coffee and pretty college women all over the place. Oh, and I just got a table next to a power outlet... I could be here all night

Well, it's evening now. I'm sitting in a room lit only by the glow of this computing machine, listening to music with a glass of whisky in my hand. For the moment, I'm feeling pretty content.

Just got home about an hour ago from driving to Boston area to talk with a client about his boat that he wants to enter in a show but somehow doesn't really want to spend money on. Been up since 5-ish, had diarrhea, a bad lunch, and there's no beer in my house.
Going to bed to forget today and start over tomorrow.

60ish and sunny this day near Los Angeles...Went riding in the mountains the past 3 days.

This morning, just after midnight i went out and snuck into local backyards to steal fruit (lemons, oranges, other citrus goodness) from the trees of my neighbors. now, we are drinking fresh squeezed juice from said plunder, with a drop or two of vodka.

Finally got home from my friend's shop, where I have replaced the rear calipers, pads, one caliper bracket and one brake hose as well as an oil change, tire rotation, both front upper balljoint boots and left axle replacement on the Civic. Also replaced one bad fuse (yay interior lights) and repainted one bit of black door trim.

Now headed out to a rough, cheap hipster dive bar under the elevated train tracks here.

Oh and Dozer: always vomit first. Believe me, unless there is a bathtub next to you, you don't want to be sticking your head in there.

And for those without heat; two amazing things:

1) 50-60 of those saint candles from the grocery store can effectively heat a decently sized space if the need arises.

2) Go buy an electric blanket...no really...right now. Worth every penny, and the cost (regardless of what it is) is still likely cheaper than running a 1500 watt heater nonstop for a few months.

I'm just saying. That first winter in Philly I learned a lot.

My Friday afternoon was hectic but overall enjoyable. My Friday evening was spent at a bar watching my dear old Texas Aggies get crushed by LSwho in the Cotton Bowl (well, not IN the Cotton Bowl, that stadium was across town, but they call the game that wherever its played) while having to listen to some poor complexioned floozie prattle on about how the liberals in Gainsville almost fucked this state up but the Mama Grizzlies like her are roaring now. OMFG I laughed up a french fry when she said that, I have run up against a Palin-ite in such close quarters before. Hell even my uber-conservative in laws think she's nuts.
Anyway, I'm mildly hungover now that Saturday has come along. And I gotta go to work. Its 60F this morning, I think I take my pedal bike instead of an engine, I need the exercise and I'm only working in the warehouse.

On the upside, Mailman just brought couple gifts of motorcycle variety.

I spent all of Friday working on homework. And I mean ALL of Friday. I turned down a (non-romantic) date with two old friends, and stayed up until two in the morning, working on a project that would have only taken me ten minutes if I didn't have to teach myself a new computer program in the process.

Then, yesterday, I forgot to take the medication I'm on that makes it nearly impossible to sleep.
Funny thing about that: when you are on a medication that makes it nearly impossible to sleep, and you forget to take it, it makes it nearly impossible to wake up.
Therefore, I slept through the deadline for the project that I spent all of Friday working on.
Huzzah.

BUT, since I had finished all of my work early, I took Saturday off and went to the symphony in SF. If you buy tickets at the last minute, they are only $20. I had a good seat, and saw a good performance.
Then I went to a pub and had the best porter I've ever tasted (for those of you in California, if you ever get the chance to try Uncommon Brewers' Baltic Porter, DO IT; and for those of you in SF, it can be found at the Toronado on lower Haight).
Anyway, symphony, porter, hung out with some good friends that I rarely see, then met up with a super hot, 5'10" fitness instructor, drank Jameson, then had a hot makeout session on her front porch.
After that I cabbed it and drank more (free) Jameson in a nightclub where I was allowed to hang out afterhours because I'm well connected like that in some circles.

Oh, but the best part? I wasn't the one who was murdered while walking down the street in west Oakland, on my way to take BART (<--- the subway) into SF. No shit. Same street. Right where I just was. Someone was robbed and murdered shortly after I passed by.
Unfortunately my friends' neighborhood is going (back) to shit.
It fucking sucks, and I am scared for them.

Sunday I was too hung over to do anything whatsoever. That specifically included the supermoto track day, for which I was all geared up and ready to go.

Oh, and I was also NOT the one who got so drunk that he pissed the bed in my friends' guest room, and was so embarrassed that he had to up and leave first thing in the morning, and had to climb a spike topped, five foot, wrought iron fence on the way out.

I'm super stoked to not be that guy!

2xOh... And I also scored a free anvil. Like an 80 pounder.
Hey... Free anvil!
