I was wondering what kind of music/bands do the UTMC'ers listen to? Personally, I love Metal...Disturbed, Godsmack, Megadeth, Pantara...I also dig good Hard Rock...OZZY, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Queens Ryche...I like listening to any 70's Rock...Boston, ZZTop, Yes, Rush (Old and New)...I also like 80's Heavy Rock...Whitesnake, RATT, DIO, Dokken. Then, we mix in some Acousta Therapy and other easy listening...Blues Traveler, Dave Matthews, Sonja Da Da...Not a Country fan at all. FYI - I have in the past and continue now to give "Country - Music"? a chance. So far, in my 30+ years of listening to and playing music. No Country moves me. So, what do you like? 8)

Does it scare you? That I'm able to discern, what to love and what to burn!

Metallica (piss off, St. Anger is genius, if you listen to it repetatively, and occasionally backwards), Godsmack (love that acoustic set, too), Disturbed, Staind (when he isn't whining about being fat and nobody loving him), and just about everything else. Gretchen Wilson is cool, so is Jay Z. Basically, I'll rock to ANYTHING wirth rocking too.

USually one of the first two running through my head when shifting gears though.

Too much to list....

Right now I mostly listen to Clutch, Opeth, Kyuss, QOTSA, Black Sabbath and Mono. Oh! and lots of Howlin' Wolf!

I used to like Metallica a lot, but I hardly listen to them anymore. I can appreciate that their newer stuff is decent rock music, but it doesn't do anything for me like Ride the Lightning did.

Dio is one of my guilty pleasures. My wife gives me shit about it, but I usually just have to remind her that she likes Abba and she leaves me alone about it. I saw him live last year. Terrible venue with terrible sound but Dio did, in fact, rock for a long long time.

The only country I like is Hank Williams Sr. and a couple of Johnny Cash songs. There is very, very little rap that I like.

Oh bugger, now that is tricky....my favourite Bands and musicians in no particular order:
The Who, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Ton Steine Scherben, Die Ärzte, Die Toten Hosen, Bots, Rio Reiser, Ludwig van Beethoven, Smetana, Dworak, The Yardbirds (that's the live ensemble, not hte studio ensemble), The Kinks, Queen, KISS, early Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones (before Brian Jones left and died), Johann Sebastian Bach, Cream, The Doors (from The Doors through to Waiting for the Sun), Rammstein, late Beatles (from Sgt. Pepper onwards), Mike Oldfield, Wir Sind Helden, Fettes Brot, early Jethro Tull, Uriah Heap...that's the favourites. Add a colourful smattering of 80s Pop and NDW plus various classic tunes, some Mariachi style stuff and I'm pretty much happy for the weekend.
If there were absolutely anything to be afraid of, don't you think I would have worn pants?

I said I have a big stick.

My absolute favorite band in the entire universe is Sublime. Best band, ever, in my opinion - of course. I've been listening to a lot of Jack Johnson, G-Love, Ozomatli and 311 lately. I'm also a bit of a closet Dave Matthews fan.. In public, i'll go on and on about how much they suck. At home.. crash into me.. Yeah, lol.

As far as hard-charging rock and roll is concerned.. Motorhead, Rev. Horton Heat, Nekromantix, Sick of it All, Tiger Army, Operation Ivy, Rancid, Lars Fredrickson and the Bastards, Rage Against the Machine, old No Doubt (Before Gwen turned into.. well, she ain't Gwen no more.).. I could go on like this forever.

I'm listening to The Doors right now though.. next up, The Cure.

My musical tastes are pretty varied.

Current heavy rotation is Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. I've been listening almost exclusively since June. Before that Robert Randolph and the Family Band.

Usual long term faves are Hendrix, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Steely Dan, Lou Reed, B-52s, oddly enough..Paul Oakenfold and Fatboy Slim.

The nod to country, Hank Williams Sr. and Drive by Truckers with an old Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen album.

All time eclectic renaissance man - Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks.

Plenty more but this is my comfort music list - stuff I play when I just want to enjoy it myself.
Two TV sets and two Cadillac cars, y'know they ain't gonna help me at all.

Aww music. My driving force. I dont really have a set genre of music I follow. That just gets old and boring.

Im an old punk at heart Good old G.B.H., Exploited, SubHumAns, Op Ivy, Crass, Old Social Distortion (back when Mike Ness was a skinny little guy that wore to much makeup), The Ramones, OLD Misfits (the new misfits can suck on my fuckin balls)

For the right mood I can get into some cheese goth like Joy Divisions, The Cranes,, BauHaus, Fields of the Nephilim, The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Christiain Death...ETC...

Hardcore... Gotta dig on MadBall, Blood For Blood, Crade of Filth, HateBreed, this list can go on and on.

Im really diggin the Psycho-billy thing, Tiger Army, The Meteors, Nekromantix, The Peacocks, The HorrorPops (A.K.A. the scary soda's) E.T.C...

Love OLD Country, Hank Williams Sr., Johnny Cash, Merl Haggert, Wayland Jennings. Too name a few of the legends.

New country with an old feel to it (cause most new country sucks ass)
Wayne The Train Hancock, Hank Williams the 3rd, Slim Cesna's Auto Club, (Folks if you havent heard of any of these guys, they are awesome and worth checkin into)

Can't forget my Industrial roots Skinny Puppy, Psychic T.V. (T.O.P.Y and proud), Ministry, KMFDM, VNV Nation, Leather Strip...

I could honestly go on for hours on this thread. I'll quit while im ahead.

Gauss is never allowed to be the DJ. Do I get a second on that? I can only imagine Dr. J's BBQ with Tesch, Pat Boone, Glen Campbell and Nancy Sinatra in a mind numbing loop of torture.

Gauss.... step away from the stereo... slowly..... slowly .... now drop the CD and the remote or I'll be forced to sing along......

Ah, music! I love music. Indeed I even use to listen to it sometimes.

I've only discovered Sublime a few days ago. Got some records from a neighbor. In my eyes they're nothing but a bunch of bad 311 imposters. And 311 is one of my all-time favorite bands, ever!

Metallica doesn't do it for me anymore. In fact I didn't touch any of their records for a few years now. I've probably grown out of that kinda metal. Strangely enough I find Anthrax's White Noise album still very very good. Also still a huge fan of Suicidal Tendencies and their side project Infectious Grooves.

Hardly anymore do all the grunge bands find their way into my CD player. I was such a big fan of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains and all that stuff. But now?

And what happened to all that crossover stuff, RHCP, RATM and whatnot? Almost forgotten in my mind.

Instead of listening to heavy sounds I surprise myself by listening to jazz more and more, which I find very disturbing behaviour for an ex-metal head like me. Do I need professional help?

Country no - Johnny Cash yes!!!

Strictly no Deutschrock! (That's Krautrock for you, my American friends). Sorry DerGolgo.

Another sign of growing older is my habit of listening to 70s rock and enjoying the tickling feeling of nostalgia. Even got myself some Pink Floyd albums which I absolutely hated when they first came out. Also I listen to Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Jethro Tull, Rory Gallagher, Thin Lizzy, Neil Young and other old heroes. CSN&Y's 4 Way Street album was a beacon of hope during my wild camp fire years (aka puberty) and still is one of my favorite live albums of all times. Not very hip, I know. Shame on me.

And lately I also found back to punk. Unfortunately most of my old original records have disappeared over the years. They must be worth their weight in gold now. From time to time I love to blast the first 2 Ramones records in my car system. Converted them from vinyl to MD and MP3 before I got rid of my turntable. The sound is really lovely and lively with all that snap-crackle-pop noise.
If at first you don't succeed,
then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I keep telling myself that the second Hasselhoff pic is photoshopped, but I fear that it isn't. That is sooooo wrong. Wrong, but for now still legal in Washington State.

And don't go knocking Nancy. I love Nancy Sinatra. Not so much that I love Nancy, as much as I appreciate her as an instrument for Lee Hazlewood, who is absolutely brilliant.

I have found that the older I get, the more music I like. I like music from more decades, more genres, etc. I find myself looking past the cheese of some bands and appreciating the craft of what they do and not let myself get hung up on conceptions of credibility.

That said, I catch a lot of shit at work for being a hater of bands(even though I listen to a lot more stuff than they do). This is because I talk smack about bands like the Killers and the Bravery, who are both popular among some of my co-workers.

Probably my favorite band that is currently putting out material is British Sea Power. So underappreciated.
