Next week, we're gonna have an orphan dinner and watch a little movie. I'm working the details with my partner to see if we're gonna charge a cover, or just have a big ol' potluck and ask for donations to cover the costs. Details forthcoming (very soon).

For a minute there I thought you were talking about the town in Southern California. But there's really nothing to talk about that shithole.

I met those guys at Maker Faire this year and checked out their car. Nice guys, made the movie on a shoestring, the car was fun and and silly - nerded out with them about blowers and smallblocks, for amateur mechanics they did a decent enough job. It blew fire out the stacks just fine. I have video somewhere...

I will be seeing the film, for sure. looks plenty entertaining.

Based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback I've received here (hahaa, right) I'm trying to put together a screening of this film in the SF bay area.
Renting the movie would cost $250, and I'm looking for a venue right now.

Let me know if anyone is actually interested.

Cool. I'm working on the details right now. Ideally I'd like a warehouse space or a bar, but that's mainly because they'd have booze, and renting a theater is fucking expensive.

I'm shooting for either the 12th of November, or on Thanksgiving, and combining it with one of the Bay Area orphans dinners.

Any thoughts?

Either one is fine with me, I'm not going home for thanksgiving. If you do it on the 12th, after 7pm would be better since I work on saturdays.

Also, NIMBY in Oakland has a performance space. I'll ask them next time I'm over there, if you don't have a spot lined up by then.

Either works for me. You may want to talk to the folx over at the Crucible too, seems up their alley.

Unfortunately this is as advanced as I could give the notice. My partner and I have been tap dancing with various venues to try to find something affordable, reliable, and not a logistical nightmare. We *just* got one solidified last night, and if it didn't happen last night, I was planning on scrapping the whole idea.

Thursday, November 24, 2011 at 7:30pm until Friday, November 25, 2011 at 12:00pm

Where

Old Fire Station 16, 909 Tenessee st. (20th and Tenessee), San Francisco, CA
Description

This thanksgiving, come join all of your favorite miscreants in a thanksgiving potluck feast, and sit down with us to watch the indie soon-to-be-cult flick, Bellflower.

If you haven't heard of this film, here's the trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lu3v7iUaUaA

Here's the website:
http://www.bellflower-themovie.com/

The film is still on the art house tour, and has been featured at festivals such as Sundance and SXSW. These folks invented their own movie camera out of a pile of parts to get the look they were after. Seriously cool stuff.

So here's the scoop on the party:

We're gonna open the doors at 7:30pm, show up and bring a dish to share if you have the means to do so! The film will start at 9 o'clock, so don't be too late!

There will be booze. Free booze. But you know how fast free booze tends to disappear, so bringing booze to share would also be much appreciated.

There is NO COVER CHARGE for this event, however, we have already spent $350+ on this, and we aren't even done yet. Therefore, we are asking for a $10 suggested donation for the festivities. We are counting on you, our lovely community, to keep us from totally losing our asses on this.
Pitch in what you can, be it more or less... Thanks!

Also, we need some volunteers from the audience! We're gonna need a booze slinger or two, and most importantly, SOMEONE NEEDS TO COOK THE TURKEYS!

Lastly, feel free to invite people along, but don't get too out of hand with it! Try to keep your invites to good folks who will participate, and let's keep the random weirdo moochers to a minimum.

And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RSVP! We are gonna need a head count so we make sure we've got seating for everyone!

Thanks!
Sleep Dep and Rail Road.
