Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.

Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

I just want to know the story on this, who can afford it, who's funding it, when they expect it to be completed, and who's dick I have to suck to get a job. Just kidding.

I'm especially curious about the last few photos with a dredge, apparently working its way to the graving dock. Looks like its going to be awhile.

Oh, man those are some sweet curves!

Those pictures give me an interesting feeling in my pants even more than motorcycles!

I am currently re-reading "Command a Kings Ship" by Alexander Kent about the rise of captain Richard Bolitho, RN. The ship in question is Undine, an english frigate of perhaps the same era.

The scale of the project is what astounds me. Infuckingcredible.
Oh, I just did the translated version.
They started construction 15 years ago. Usually, back in the day, that was a little more than half of one of these things' useful lifespans.

( As you already know )
The frigate Hermione from 18th century will be put back to water after 15 years of work.
On july 6th it will go out of (what understand to be Louis XV bassin to enter the Napoleon III basin, were the rig and weapons will be installed.

a-woaw!!

Its been there for so long that they have to dig away the mud in front of the basin, and replace the wall with boat-doors
I'm not really from around here.

True. And just look at the expression on his face. That's what taking a ship-sized dump looks like.

Though I have no sea legs to speak of, I'd be willing to help find some Somalis to appropriate the vessel--then dump them overboard--paint the boat all flat black--you know. Ooh ooh, put a velodrome along the rails and we can get some racing in between cleaning off the poop deck.

Poop deck. (one of the perks of being immature--appreciating such terms)

Pretty boat, for sure, though.

The whole thing is... It's just amazing to me someone would pump that much money into something like that.

Only a model, but a start, I guess.
In fifty years, it will surely be amusing to see some Branson-esque crackpot billionaire to treck to the moon in a tiny, disposable capsule, just because his dad used to build the models and he always wanted to fly one for real. In a fitting situation of history repeating itself, that billionaire will have probably made his fortune with breaking the big company's oligopoly on passenger flights to the moon and will wave to his lunar shuttles overtaking him.

I know it's altogether too pie-in-the-sky, but send them your CV, man! Harass the bastards. Let them know all about your enthusiasm and know-how. It couldn't hurt to try, yeah? Knowing what little I know about you and your nauticalistic nature, I'd say you're a pretty decent fit for such an adventure. And who knows, you may not even have to suck cock?
