Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Man, I haven't seen any of the original Stooges' stuff in what, twenty years? About that.
Used to be on TV here constantly on the weekends, every darn weekend I think. Someone had bought the rights, and they had nothing else to fill the air with I think.
If I recall correctly, I loved them for a few years. Darn they were funny! Then I lost interest and the last time I bothered watching them, it was just yawnsville. After that, when seeing them come up while channel surfing, I'd just keep surfing.
So I don't actually have a negative predisposition to this effort, if it comes my way, I may watch it. Didn't even know they were making that. Again, evidence that Hollywood has run out of ideas.
On the other hand, the "original" Stooges were around from the 1920s till their last effort in what, late sixties, early seventies or so. With an ever changing cast. So, really, this isn't the usual case of Hollywood trampling on what is old and great with no respect for why it was great, but a strange way of honoring 'em and keeping the tradition going after a short interval.
If there were absolutely anything to be afraid of, don't you think I would have worn pants?

I said I have a big stick.

Because Dave White gets paid to go to movies and that makes his opinion more important than yours.

Really, It comes down to personal opinion. This guy Dave loved the movie. The critic for the Austin Chronicle absolutely hated it.

It seems that the majority of people who have seen it think its pretty bad:

While nowhere near as painful as it could have been, The Three Stooges fails to add fresh laughs to the Stooges' inestimable cinematic legacy.

Didn't even know it was being made. Just saw the review, and know we have some Stooges fans here on the board and figured I'd put it out there to see what opinions were about it.

In the "I didn't know it was being made" vein.
Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter is a real thing.
I'd heard of it, but thought it was just an internet meme joke thing.
At the Hunger Games there was a trailer for the Lincoln movie, and I was laughing out loud. I was the only one laughing.

Now a review from someone who's seen it and someone you "know":

First, I love the original Stooges, even the Shemp ones. And when I heard there was a movie, I reacted like most of you. Yawn. But my 9 yr-old and I are alone, with mommy and the little one in Taiwan, so we saw it last Saturday. I give it a C for adults, and a B for kids. Why? It has all the yuks and head cracking, eye poking and smart assin I like with the originals.

One line I liked was:

"Who let those 3 idiots in here?"

"Who, the Kardashian sisters?"

The movie fails because they tried too hard to construct a story line. The original Stooges didn't care about plots or character developments. All they needed was: 3 guys get a job as plummers in a mansion, and the madcappery takes it from there--characters schmaracters. This movie blows it by taking all that development too seriously and too far.

I don't laugh out loud too much with movies, but I think I laughed maybe 3-4 times. My 9 yr-old laughed alot more.

I just noticed they've made 17 milllion so far. I would have guessed alot less.

Good for a Netflix stream or rental on a boring night--maybe. Not worth a $10 movie ticket, though my son liked it.
