Re: Sucky, bike stolen
Can't say I expect to hear anything really. The campus detective called yesterday to let me know he has confirmed it's in the local/national theft databases. I did ask that he look into the one camera that might have gotten even a general view to see if it is the individuals I suspect that I saw immediately before hand.
Really tho it will likely be ridden around a while then ditched. Lit on fire? Dumped in a pond? Damaged for sport?
It's just too unlikely to sell or part out successfully. The theft has been posted on ADV in multiple places, Cafe Husky, Colorado Sportbike Club, as well as the FB contingent and groups. That model is just too rare to not come up if listed on CL or ebay, and many or most of the parts are quite identifiable.......... so I'm betting ditched really as some point.

Looks like it was recovered down in Pueblo area last friday. It was being ridden and was pulled over..... so waiting to hear back from the CSP about that end of things. It's stripped down and a little worse for wear but running. Now to start the insurance loop all over with an inspection tomorrow. I fought damn hard to get a descent valuation on the total loss payout, now we'll see if they start agreeing with me now that it's to their benefit.......

Oh boy, I know how complicated that situation can be... and i dunno if you want it back after being abused at the hands of thieve(s) for any amount of time. I wish you luck and that the insurance company sends someone both competent and fair to go look at it. If your state title brands for recovered thefts you may not want it back in any case due to the diminished value from such a title brand and the difficulty of selling anything so branded down the road.

Re: Sucky, bike stolen
I have to jump through some hoops and get a dealer to write a repair estimate. But I do anticipate being able to buy it back for at least reasonable. So ideally I'll keep the bike, get the title handed back (it hasn't been processed I think) and cut them back a check for the difference from what they paid me on the claim as a total loss, non recovered theft.
I did just pick up another 08' TE610 for cheap which is in case something happens and they won't let me retain the bike. If I get to have both, one will wear the sumo wheels full time....... shucks.

Re: Sucky, bike stolen
So this ordeal is just about at a close. They have come back with a buyback number that I can live with. In the end if you only consider the numbers it's almost profitable..............
So 5 months wasted. Hours on the phone arguing value. Unneeded stress and anger. Getting as good of a settlement as you could hope for with out having special riders on the bike. I highly recommend that everyone look over your policy real good.... in my case they didn't specify the amount of depreciation of added value equipment. For a five year old bike that depreciation value is 80% in the case of Allstates third party valuation experts.
Get fuckall lucky and recover the bike 3.5 months later, and it's not parted, just somewhat stripped. But for the most part all whole, and in okay shape where it's important. I made sure to go recover the bike myself so that
1. it was in my possession and I could inspect it. Possession is leverage in this case.
2. that it didn't languish in impound and become a total loss just to get it out of jail.
In the meantime I found another for a great price..... $2100 with high miles but a known history. One of the reasons I wanted to keep/replace the 610 is that after all these years I really do think it's the best bike in it's class for what it can do. And I already have SUMO wheels for it, and the next round of maintenance stuff for it.... so really it can't hurt to have two of them, right?. Dirt and sumo ready, spare parts if needed in a pinch. As a plus the headache of insurance covered getting the new bike. So it's almost getting worth it...... but kinda not really. Unnecessary stress is expensive in my book.
So I'll still need to get a new helmet, perf jacket and reoutfit the stripped goodies from the bike, as well as set up the sumo in like fashion. Might take a bit to make that happen.
On the plus side, now I'll have a bike goose can borrow where he can actually touch the ground.

Note that Progressive includes $3,000 of custom-parts/accessory coverage in their full coverage, and they don't depreciate those parts one cent (although they don't include install labor). That coverage meant getting $6500 for my 2002 Sprint with 75k on it, vs. $3500 at most from some other company. Also, Progressive didn't argue about the value or about paying the claim. They really were great, and I highly recommend them.
