If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.
If you have problems logging in, posting, or doing anything else, please get in touch.
You know the email (if you don't, see in the registration info below), you know where to find the Administerrerrerr on the Midget Circus.
Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.
To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.
Again, if you have any problems: get in touch.

First fix:
Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.
Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.
PLEASE NOTIFY THE ADMINISTERRERRERR ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS!
- open the menu at the top
- hit New Posts to see what's actually new and browse the new stuff from there
- go back to the Forum Index
- open the menu at the top again
- click Mark forums read
this will zero the unread anything for you, so you can strive forth into the exciting world of the new cookie thing.

That is ... brilliant. Too brilliant for an exclamation mark even, only the full stop can carry the gravitas of the brilliance of this.
The marketing opportunities this presents boggle the mind, do they not?
Imagine you go to the gym and find a machine like that ... do x of y and you get a McD voucher for a free super-size! Even if you're not a gym-member! Of course, once they get the likely customers for this through the door ...

No. I've just tried again. Didn't fuck the forum entirely, but I restored from backup nonetheless.MATPOC wrote:Can we have a "like" button like FB?
Haven't found a mod that will install alright, let alone work. BJ's theory was that it's a version problem. Everything out there is for phpBB 3.0.11, we're running 3.0.12. As soon as I find one that advertises suitability for 3.0.12, I'll try and install it. But I haven't found one, yet. In Soviet Russia, working mods find you. When they can be bothered.
If you feel like trawling through the 'net for a phpBB3 mod for rating posts, suitable for version 3.0.12, please, be my guest. I've been looking since, basically, I've taken over. From day one, I've been googling at least once a week (and searched the internet, too). No joy, thus far.

DG, I didn't mean that quite literally, must be lost in translation from American mindset to German, perhaps someone with better lingual skills explain this better than me, but generally the "can we get ....." posted on the forum is not expected to be met with any kind of action.
My computer skill is limited to early HTML and I have as much patience (if not less) than my 5 year old, so me searching world wide web for phpBB upgrades is about as likely as performing a Swan Lake. I am glad that someone is taking care of this place, even though I have not been active lately I do check in from time to time and it feels like home. Thanks for keeping the lights on!

Re: Russia prepares for Olympics
I must apologize. Reading what I posted, it does sound like I'm ranting at you. I wasn't. I was ranting in general. I want a "like" button myself, which is why this morning I thought I'd give it another shot at your suggestion. I'm not frustrated with anyone wanting a like button, but with the inability to bloody well get one. I should have expressed myself more like that:
No.
